Notice of Intent:xrd1 Consulting is suggesting a draft proposal for a novel approach to “tagging” of the aten planetary object, 99942 Apophis.
This proposal is intended to outline a plan for “tagging” of the 99942 Apophis planetary object described in The Planetary Society competition of the same name.
The nature of this novel invention is to create and place a tri-tether long-range radio set of interferometers on or near the surface of the 99942 Apophis planetary object.
The proposed method of operation of the tri-tethered interferometers is to provide a long-range set of radio signals originating at or near the surface of 99942 Apophis. Success of the operation is dependent on the successful deployment of the tri-tethered interferometers at sufficient distances so as not cause entanglement of the tethers. Tethers of the interferometers must be sufficiently long so as not to cause signal interruption of the radio interferometers by local geometry and geography of 99942 Apophis.
Signal generation is to be powered by (updated: 4/25/07) minor nuclear power sources.
Signals generated by the multiply tethered interferometers will be calibrated so as to create a single signal to be observed by satellite and/or the International Space Station to provide sufficient terrestrial warning and lead time to imminent impact of the 99942 Apophis object.
Contingencies: Technology is untested – due to the seriousness of the potential threat presented by an impact scenario, a full feasibility study and test program must be conducted prior to deployment of any technology discussed here. Licensing/assigning/ceding of rights to this proposed development is of interest to the xrd1 Consulting firm
